Drowning

Sometimes when I’m alone,

I’m not alone at all.

I’m surrounded by

People, places, and a body of water

I’m drowning in the deepest companionships of life

While everyone else is breathing.

They are laughing, singing

Swimming

In the event of my demise, I will be drowning.

I wish someone had taught me how to swim

Or tread

In the consuming water of life

Can’t catch my breath.

Lungs collapse

As I sink further in the depths of my demise

It’s too late to learn how to swim

At the event of my demise

I drown
