A Dream to Build a Future

Why can’t I get a chance?

To show I have the potential to do great things.

I want to live; let me live. I want to build my future

By staying in school and accomplish the job that I want to

Die doing. The obstacles are many, and they cannot be erased

Unless people open up their minds and realize they are putting young

Students in the shadows; look at your child

Who wants to obtain a medical degree with hard work. That is me:

Same hands, heart and eyes.  Only a different background

Where corruption exists and hope diminishes due to drugs.

Indeed, the worst feeling is to know simple things to a majority

Are unreachable to others. Food is plenty in America,

But a luxury in third world countries. Love is only meant

For a female and male, no exceptions.

It does not matter

How much passion there is to earn a college degree; money

Is the superficial factor getting on the way.

Laws are limiting for they are political and

At times don’t get the job done.

What was the use of the segregation laws?

Why throughout history, we would forget a human

Is a human and try to strip that away from them?

A man of worth is the one who knows how to live.

They surpass obstacles and seek the pursuit of happiness;

For that reason no one can tell you how to live life,

 It is up to us

To find our true identity and perceive

What we stand for. Society cannot

Define me. I want to be successful and

Go to college because knowledge is

Power- to help those in need.
