Desperation

Was he really that desperate?
The words pound through my mind.
Was he really that desperate?
My legs threaten to give in beneath me.
 Was he really that desperate?
I look in the mirror and burst into tears.
Was he really that desperate?
An embarrassing memory turns into a humiliating one.
Was he really that desperate?
Betrayal electrifies every limb.
Was he really that desperate?
I can't speak to my best friend.
Was he really that desperate?
I struggle to breathe.
Was he really that desperate?
Her words are every other thought running through my head.
Was he really that desperate?
Does she know how her words hurt?
Or is it insignificant to her?
Does she realize how she crumbled my confidence?
Or is it a non-issue to her?
Does she know?
Does she realize?
Can she?
Was he really that desperate?
Was I really that desperate?
Am I really that awful?
Am I really this desperate?
Yes. Was he really that desperate?
A cliff beckons me.
 Was he really that desperate?
It promises a solution.
Was he really that desperate?
A simple one.Was he really that desperate?
"Put down the fork."Was he really that desperate?
I take one step towards the cliff.
Was he really that desperate?
Another move.
 Was he really that desperate?
It's just a step away. Was he really that desperate?
One step.
Was he really that desperate?
One step to freedom.
Was he really that desperate?
Just. One. Step.
Was he really that desperate?
The sky was beautiful when my world ended
