A Declaration

Location

Searching my mind for reasonsl

that I am flawless,

I find that I am leaning toward

those cliché anecdotes about

being a shy kid and finally

finding my voice

or learning that in life we

all have choice.

No.

William Shakespeare wrote, "To thine own

self be true."

So I'm speaking the truth when I say that owning my

flaws makes me flawless.

Yeah, I may sound obnoxious

when I sing out of tune to

Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas"

with friends at one of my university's cafés

but who's to get in my way?

I am unapologetically me!

That's the true meaning of free;

at least, it seems true to me.

I'm telling you without speaking,

without even acknowledging your

disapproval,

that this is a part of who I am.

My friends will attest, even the

ones who have known me only

a few months.

When I walk into a room wearing

last night's pajamas with my hair

in a messy bun, I am only trying to please myself.

Consider this poem my personal

Declaration of Self-Confidence.

Take it as you will.

I really don't care what you think.
