Dear Universe

Dear Universe,

I blame you. I blame you for everything.

People always told me to put my faith in you, to believe it would all work out,

and I don’t know why I was dumb enough to listen.

I am done listening and I am done believing.

I will no longer put my faith in you or trust in what you do.

How can I after everything that you let happen?

You let innocent people die every day, each one by a different form of death.

Death by disease, death by murder, death by self, death by unknown.

Loved ones who didn’t carry out their hopes and dreams.

People who had so much more to give,

but couldn’t because they believed in you.

I blame you.

You let men and women of all ages get raped, molested, and violated.

They don’t deserve it, and they do not ask for it.

It happens and they have to take it.

Sometimes they can count on the judicial system to get justice.

Other times they must depend on themselves to get through it.

I blame you.

You watched as wars broke out and brought disaster to the world.

Countries were devastated, left to pick up its pieces year after year.

Millions of lives were lost, with families broken and much smaller than before.

People became paranoid and afraid, fearing for their future.

The word peace lost its meaning.

I blame you.

You stood by as people were starved and tortured for their heritage.

They were labeled as different and they died for it.

Punished and killed for the place their grandparents came from.

Simply because they had dark curly hair and were “imperfect”.

Because a monster said they should die.

I blame you.

You allowed a bully to become president jeopardizing the future of our country.

Putting fear into the people, dividing our people.

Forcing people to hide their true heritage, their origins, their self.

Making some think berating women and those of color is acceptable.

Starting a whirlwind of fear, hatred, and exploitation.

I blame you.

I blame you.

I blame you.
I blame us.

We let it all happen.
