A Day Late

Bang! Bang! Like the shot heard around the world
Another life lost on the curb.
Once more, an innocent life unfurled.

This hardly happens in a suburb
But bombs shatter lives everyday overseas.
Yet, somehow, our safe and sound is impossible to disturb.

So we wake up and leave our homes with ease
while others are afraid to wake,
Never getting a second to breathe, a moment's peace.

At any second, the silence could break.
A treaty can be signed,
Have nothing more at stake.

And guns could stop firing in kind.
So lives could be lived well beyond their time.
If only this violence was left behind.
