Broken Woman

Thu, 06/05/2014 - 16:30 -- Shardi

Location

As each girl takes her first inhalation,

She becomes a host to the cycle of corruption.

And it starts as society's thoughts creep into her ears,

Attaches itself to the soul and poisons her mind with fear.

Monetary bribery has compromised pride and hostility;

The industry has made entertainment transform to reality.

Blinding sights and foul mouths project degrading views of women,

Numbing its victim's judgement as they join, watch, and listen.

Years have passed, yet we linger in the shadows of our past,

Focusing on looks rather than education and class,

Glaring at fellow sisters with eyes of pure hatred and envy,

Forgetting the struggles of Mama Truth and Susan B.

Just because history is written in pen,

That same ink can soon fade and be forgotten.
