Curtain Call

So tell me that I’m “dark skin” and that I’m not considered cute
Tell me that my hair is too kinky and not good enough for you.
Tell me that everything that makes me me, makes me less of a person
Tell me these things like I haven’t already heard them.
And when you’re done, let me tell you this
I am a beautiful person whos skin has been kissed
Kissed by the sun! And my hair?
My hair is free without a care!
So when you ask who’s hiding behind a curtain…
It’s not me that’s hiding,
It’s what they think of me
That beautiful girl behind the scenes
Who won’t come out and share with the world
The world who thinks they already know her
From the color of her skin and the texture of her fur.
But ME? I am here.
And I am not scared.
I am standing tall and on stage
For all the girls who are too afraid
To show who they truly can be
Because of the judgments from society.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              So this one is for the girls who's ashamed to stand on stage nice and tall                                                                                                                             Curtain call.
