Chances Slip Away

Fri, 04/25/2014 - 04:06 -- LeeLee

As we stand back and watch,
Our chances slip away;
We think that there will always be
Another time, another day.

All the little things in life,
we choose to keep inside;
And the things we refuse to do,
Because of our empty pride.

All the loving words unspoken,
Never to be expressed;
All the secrets that we keep,
Will never be confessed.

The careless faults in others,
That we could never forgive;
The memories that will haunt us
As long as we live.

Now we stand over them,
As they lie cold in the grave;
Remembering all the things
That in life they gave.

Then comes the moment of pain
We will never forget,
When everything we did not do
Drowns us with regret.

Is it better to have loved and lost
To luck and circumstance,
When we think what could have been
If only we had taken a chance?
