The Cat That Changed My life

Location

South Africa

I remember the day we met

I picked you from the litter and held you

You purred in my lap and I knew you were now my pet

A kitten just small enough to fit in a shoe

You laid on my pillow every night

And for three years we were inseparable

I wished you could live forever and some days it felt like you might

However deep down I knew that was not possible

Now you stay on my bookshelf in a box still fresh with the smell of wood

With the key I keep on a necklace being my connection with you

And though I can’t see you and I wish I could

I know that you are in a better place too

In such a short time, my life was intertwined with yours

And even now, three years later, my love for you still endures
