The Cardinal

The cardinal is red

Happy as can be

With its wings spread

Flying free

Through the sky it’s soaring

A pleasant sight to see

The cardinal isn’t boring

It’s calling to me

To come join the fun

Yet what I lack

Are wings to climb to the sun

And to glide back

It looks down at me

And sings as it flies

I climb higher in the tree

The cardinal is so wise

It’s peaceful here

In the blowing breeze

The cardinal is near

And its wings brush my knees

How amazing I would feel

If only I could fly

It would be surreal

Way up in the sky

But other birds are grounded

Remaining on earth or at sea

They cannot be astounded

By the sensation you get above the trees

The cardinal is a lucky bird

Oh, pay attention closely

Its beautiful song can be heard

It soars in the sky mostly

But will sometimes land

Close by you

In your hand

Yes, it’s true

The cardinal is red

Happy as can be

With its wings spread

Flying free
