“When a mommy and a daddy love each other very much,
They get together and make a baby.”
It isn’t so simple,
Not in my case.
Was I even meant to be?

What once was is no longer.
Wearing masks under one roof,
For what?
Stopped asking that long ago.

His mood switch flips,
He’s radioactive;
A walking “Do Not Disturb” sign.

Never knew any different,
Until friends wanted to come over.
My dad isn’t like theirs,
He was different;
He was bipolar.

It’s a normal for us,
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt,
When that switch is flipped.

Don’t feel sorry,
It’s our normal.
We love,
We avoid,
We survive.
But if there was one thing I would change;
It would be his “disorder”.
