Being seventeen

Location

She is at an awful age

of youth and exhaustion

of revelry and caution.

They say "Your whole life is ahead."

But weigh her future on the decisions

of today

How can she discover herself

when

everything

is

a

phase.

And so

she acts through self-doubt

and an undying yearning for life

beyond

youth.

The words she speaks

sound of ancient times

and even her lies

become the truth

She is at a beautiful age

of questions and confidence

her thoughts

impetuous and careful

She is a contridiction

an emotional paradox.

She is at an awful age.

I love this poem.

I felt the same way at age 17...still feeling that way a year later.
