Becoming the Beast

I once did wield

a sword of light

and a crested shield,

these I carried into fight

society's worst nightmare.

I gained, after long, the upper hand

a simple trade it were,

I gave the beast my beating heart

for the mind of the wily cur.

So well I knew it's every thought

and anticipated each attack,

it was like we were the same but fought

and soon he could not fight back.
