Because I Love You, I Left

He played you like piano keys but you loved the melody it made

Clash

Clash

Clash

But those didn’t matter to you because, just like the sustain, it wouldn’t last.

Even if some nights were out of tune you knew it could be repaired

But would it?

Some nights he would strike the chords a little too hard, bruising the keys, twisting the tunes

Still, you were mesmerized by the vast ocean of notes cascading through your ears, unaware of the chorus that was drowning your words

No other sound could persuade you like his could

Or maybe it was the way he hit the keys so hard that it frightened you too much to leave

Soon you’ll be deafened from the strain and have no choice to be part of the chorus, singing words that aren’t your own

Oh you tone deaf girl, blissfully ignorant and soon to be just another used instrument
