American Dream

My american dream is life

When all I want is to die

A life with peace without strife

A chance to try to fly

I want to continue living

But cannot stop looking back

But the future is unforgiving

and comes onto you with a blitz attack

It woos you with ifs and maybes

and white picket fences in a culdesac

A family with two or three babies

A job where you can't go back

An american dream is a tricky thing

It's a different kind of conformity

It wants you with a scarlet letter and a diamond ring

It wants you immersed in its enormity
