20 going on 12

Was I really born in the year 1994?

I need more time to be a kid so that I can explore

The exciting things around me that I cannot ignore

I do not wish to see what adulthood holds for me in store.

Do I have to be out of college while public school is going on?

It feels strange to be at home while everyone else is gone.

Can't I put on a pair of sneakers so that I can run?

Because wearing shoes with heels just isn't any fun.

I do not have time to hang around with boys.

I just want to continue to collect fun toys.

I say these things because my appearance is very small.

So everyone assumes that I am not an adult at all.

Like the waitresses at restaurants who hand me children's .menus.

There are many people of whom I confuse.

But when I flash them my brightest smile.

They'll want to stay with me a while.

20 going on 12 is really what I am.

Because I don't want my life to be in a jam.
